Network Infrastructure

Portal Systems partners with Equinix for its primary physical data center needs. The data center features industry-leading security by employing biometric systems to limit access only to Portal Systems and certified Equinix operations engineers. The facility maintains N+1 redundancy for all power and cooling systems, assuring that your Portal Systems solution has all of the required elements for continuous operation no matter what the conditions are.

Key features of our data center facility and security policies include:

  • Video Surveillance - Live video surveillance of the entire data center building is monitored 24 hours a day. Equinix monitors all entrances to the building, as well as the data center, to ensure only authorized personnel enter the data center and sensitive areas.
  • Onsite Security Personnel - In addition to video surveillance, an onsite security firm monitors the data center building 24 hours a day, seven days a week, securing entry into the sensitive areas of the data center building. This firm provides the first layer of security for entering the data center.
  • Biometric Security - Biometric security systems provide a third layer of security for accessing the data center. Biometric hand scanners are used to restrict access to our private space within Equinix.
  • N+1 Redundant - All critical systems in the Equinix data centers that house Portal Systems solutions are N+1 redundant. Equinix staff regularly audit and test all data center systems to ensure readiness and smooth operation. Weekly tests are conducted on all HVAC, UPS, fire-suppression and generator systems.
  • HVAC Systems - The Equinix data center has N+1 redundant HVAC systems to ensure that, even in the event of a system failure, Portal Systems solutions environment will not be affected. The HVAC system is capable of circulating and filtering the entire volume of air in the data center every 90 seconds to remove dust and contaminants.
  • Fire Suppression - A state-of-the-art fire suppression system constantly monitors the physical environment for smoke, chemicals and other hazardous materials that might spark a fire. The Equinix data center uses a dual-interlock pre-action sprinkler system throughout its facilities to protect Portal Systems solutions. These pipes are dry - filled with compressed air - until two alarm conditions are reached thereby releasing the valve to charge the system. Water is only released in the area when a sprinkler head has lost its seal, or is actuated, due to heat, AND the fire detection system has detected a fire condition. If a head is accidentally removed, water does not flow into the system. Any water discharged will be sprinkler-head specific, which will limit the potential for damage caused by over-spray. This system protects Portal Systems solutions without the chance of releasing unneeded water onto your equipment.
  • UPS Systems - Equinix power systems are designed to run uninterrupted even in the event of a total power outage. All Portal Systems solutions in your hosting environment are fed with conditioned UPS power that will run if utility power fails. The UPS power subsystem is N+1 redundant with instantaneous fail over in case the primary UPS fails.
  • Diesel Generator Systems - Onsite diesel generators will automatically start in the event of a power surge or power system failure. The power subsystems are designed to cut over immediately with no interruption in the event of a power failure. All power and generator systems are regularly tested to ensure they will function properly in of a power system failure.
  • Rapid Scaling - Portal Systems's automated provisioning systems allow us to provision new space within our data centers to scale your hosting solution quickly and easily if needed. You'll find we provision new complex hosting solutions in a matter of just days in our data centers unlike other companies that take weeks.
